Unfinished Place

This is the eyeglass store in a shopping mall. The goal was to transform the store from its existing focus on selling to one that emphasizes returning profits to the local community and connecting with locals. Half of the space is devoted to free services outside of the sales area, providing a place to meet interesting books, relax with the family, and hold workshops for local residents to participate. The space consists of 500 wooden boxes made of locally grown cedar, and about 1,500 books are displayed along with the glasses, which can be picked up freely by those who do not purchase glasses. The wooden boxes, which are uniform in shape and size, can be rearranged and used as benches, work tables for workshops, and stages, in addition to display stands and bookshelves. The floor, walls, and ceiling are of minimal specifications, and the space is designed to be created together with local residents.

ショッピングモールの中のメガネ店です。既存の売ることをメインにした店舗から、地元への利益還元や地元の人との繋がりを重視した店舗への転換が目指されました。スペースの半分を売り場以外の無料のサービスに当てていて、面白い本と出会ったり、家族でくつろいだり、地元の人が参加できるワークショップが行える場所となっています。空間は地元産の杉を使った500個の木箱で構成され、メガネと一緒に約1500冊の本が展示され、メガネを購入しない人も自由に手に取ることができます。形と大きさが統一された木箱は並べ換えることができ、展示台や本棚以外にベンチ、ワークショップのときは作業台、舞台などになります。床、壁、天井は必要最低限の仕様とし、地元の人と一緒につくっていける空間となっています。
